Why should Laikipia stop at producing and start processing?

Laikipia is already a producing county. Our farmers produce milk, potatoes, grain, coffee, vegetables and livestock. But production is only one part of the economic story.

The bigger question is: how much value is created from what Laikipia already produces?

That is the question at the heart of Koinange Wahome's-Laikipia Prosperity Manifesto, which commits to moving beyond raw products and strengthening processing, storage, aggregation, packaging, branding and market access right here in the county.

Milk can move beyond the farm gate into processing. Grain can move into milling and packaging. Produce can be processed, branded and connected to wider markets.

The manifesto names the value chains where the plan would focus: dairy, livestock and meat, leather, coffee, maize and wheat, potatoes, horticulture, honey, medicinal plants and forest products.

The idea is straightforward: when more stages of production happen in Laikipia, more economic activity happens in Laikipia too. That means opportunities for processors, transporters, storage providers, manufacturers and marketers.

The promise:
A Laikipia Value Addition Initiative, so Laikipia is measured not only by how much it produces, but by how much value it creates from what it produces.

It is the first step towards an enterprise-led Green Prosperity Economy

Share this with a farmer, a trader or a processor you know. Laikipia's next chapter is one we build together.
