This afternoon, I had the singular honour of being welcomed at Wamunyoro, where I joined a gathering of grassroots mobilisers, elders, and opinion leaders drawn from every corner of Laikipia County.
There is something deeply humbling about sitting among the people who carry the true pulse of our communities — the women's group leaders, the youth representatives, the boda boda chairmen, the church and farming voices, and the elders whose memory stretches back across generations. These are not people who wait to be told what to think. They came to Wamunyoro to be heard, and I came to listen.
Ours is, above all else, a consultative movement. For far too long, the relationship between leaders and citizens has been inverted — leaders issuing instructions from above, while the people are reduced to spectators in their own affairs. We are determined to set that right. In this cause, it is the people who give political direction, and it is the leaders who must have the humility to align with their thinking, their priorities and their aspirations.
This is the guiding philosophy of our party, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP):
Listening to the People. It is not a slogan we recite — it is a discipline we practise, meeting after meeting, ward after ward.
The conversations at Wamunyoro were rich and honest. We spoke of the things that shape daily life across Laikipia — water for our homes and our farms, jobs and dignity for our young people, better roads to carry our produce to market, and accountable, people-first leadership that keeps faith with those it serves. I leave far wiser than I arrived, carrying the wisdom, counsel and frank guidance of our people as a compass for the journey ahead.
That journey is a serious one: to transform Laikipia from the ground up, and to play our part in the formation of the 6th Administration — a government anchored not in the convenience of leaders, but in the will and welfare of the citizens.
To everyone who opened their hearts and shared their views at Wamunyoro today — asanteni sana. Your voice is the mandate.
